A large number of companies wish to calculate their greenhouse gas emissions. They do so for two particular reasons:
• The company wishes to devise a strategy for CO2 reductions, giving
priority to areas in which the company’s climate impact is greatest
• The company faces requirements of openness from customers, investors
and other stakeholders requesting information about the company’s
climate impact
Using the Carbon Calculator on the Climate Compass website, you can calculate the emissions from your:
• Company owned vehicles
• Fuel combustion and chemical processes in the company
• Purchase of electricity for own use
• Employee business travel
If you have data on greenhouse gas emissions from goods transport, suppliers, purchased materials and customer use of your products, you may incorporate them in your inventory as well.
Only very few companies have all the relevant data available and completely reliable. However, this should not prevent the company from preparing a GHG emissions inventory. Even in cases where calculations involve considerable uncertainty, an inventory on your CO2 emissions can prove an invaluable tool when you select areas to prioritise in your climate strategy.
